Excerpt:
"Release me." Smiling reassuringly, she plucked his fingers free. She knew his doubt, felt it. There was nothing she could do but hope. "I'm quite safe." With that, she turned and stepped off the ledge.
Yestin felt his heart leap from his chest. What in the name of heaven was she doing?
When she did not plummet to the bottom of the ravine, he blinked several times. "How do you perform such magic?"
She held her hand out to him. She looked strong. Stronger than he had seen her since he had met her. Her long silver hair floated in the wind. It blew out behind her in long graceful trails. She looked like an angel, hand outstretched to take him to the other side.
"Do not be afraid," she said. "This is the Fragile Edge spanning the Cliffs of Intention. The way is narrow and you must proceed on faith or you will fall."
He lowered himself onto his belly and reached his hand out, patting the empty air. He connected with no solid matter. She stood on nothing. Panic crashed into him. Irrational fear stopped his pounding heart and churned his stomach. Any minute she would fall.
"Come back," he ordered.
"Trust me."
"I.er.there is nothing."
"If there is nothing, how do I stand?"
Her hand remained outstretched to him, but he could not take it. Dread coiled in his soul. Gerardio was coming. Every moment of hesitation brought him closer, but Yestin could not move, frozen in time. One hand dangled limply over the edge, the other frantically clutched the loose dirt beside his prone body. His gaze locked with hers.
"There is nothing to fear. Trust I know the way. You once told me believing sometimes means taking action. Do not tell me you spoke with pride and not the truth. Look upon this not with the eyes of a skeptic, but with the conviction of a lover. Take my hand. Follow me. I will not fail you."
He rose and accepted her hand, stepping out on faith. He did not fall.
Reviews:
This is the kind of book dreams are made of. A young princess creating her own dream world. To find the man of her dreams. Is he real or is he a figment of her imagination? And will she find the truth before it is too late? Or will her kingdom be destroyed by her inaction and the deception of one she has trusted since she has been a child?
This story brings back dream I had as a young girl. A fantasy world any girl or woman could wish for. This author combines the childlike dreams of young girls with the passions of young women. A wish for a happily ever after that always touches the heart. I cannot wait for the next installment in this series.
This author has a love for books since a young girl and has spent many hours furthering her education. She also believes in true love but as yet has not found hers. But the future is bright and reaching for this young author.

Kally Jo Surbeck will certainly suck readers in with Sudden Fall and although it didn't have sexual content, it was certainly not missed! What a dynamic and new twist to the age-old good versus evil; it had me hooked from page one. It kept me rapidly reading and held me in suspense as I went along for the ride, wept with Hafwyen and shouted my approval at the end. This is the first book I've read from Ms. Surbeck but it won't be the last!

Sudden Fall pulls the reader into an enchanting world where the fate of a nation lays in the hands of soul mates that must find each other and overcome the evil machinations of their enemy. I enjoyed the interaction between the characters and the unique connection that Wyen and Yestin shared, even over a great distance. The struggles and obstacles that they must overcome remind the reader that without strife, there is no real appreciation for the happiness that you experience in life. I found myself not wanting to put the book down because there is never a dull moment in it. I just had to know what was going to happen next and see if Wyen and Yestin would be able to stop the Fall of Yadderwal. SUDDEN FALL is a very enjoyable fantasy romance, which takes place in a complex and intriguing world filled with interesting characters. I found Ms. Surbeck's use of potions and magic intriguing, and her characters are diverse and exciting. The obsessed, stalker villain is particularly chilling. Personally, I would have liked more scenes with the hero, but that didn't detract much from the overall enjoyment of SUDDEN FALL. I highly recommend it.

Sudden Fall is an entertaining fantasy tale with a romantic foundation and a few very intriguing twists. Though the story is quite short, the plot is quite solid and the characters have a good deal of potential. I see that the author has created a second book in this series, so I am interested to see where the author takes these characters in the next book.

Breath-taking in its complexity and beauty, Sudden Fall kept me captivated from word one. The characters are richly developed into deeply satisfying people. Ms. Surbeck intertwines multiple realities into a seamless whole and pulls the reader right into the middle of it all. Love, destiny, hope and friendship walk hand in hand through the pages and create a fulfilling treasure that only a master bard can bring to life. To my friends I must say, "Get your own copy as I am hiding mine for my exclusive consumption lest it disappear." To everyone else, "Hurry and get your copy before my friends beat you to them all!"

Ecata Romance Reviews
Sudden Fall is the first in the Yadderwal Balance Series and Ms. Surbeck demonstrates that she definitely knows how to open a series in style.
The length of this work is misleading in that Ms. Surbeck will surprise readers with how much she is able to pack seamlessly into the pages. The story immediately engages the reader in the duel worlds that Hafwyen of the Flowers, heir to the royal throne of Yadderwal, chooses to inhabit. The inherent peace she seeks in the Dream World sets the scene for readers to be on alert that things in her world are not perfect. As her role within the kingdom is gradually divulged, her internal struggle and the mounting threats against her ensure that readers will be compelled to keep reading. The Lore that surrounds her is unique and sure to gratify the romantic at heart. However, the dependency of Yadderwal on Hafwyen's ability to find and acknowledge the love of her soul mate escalates this beyond a simple romance.
Kally Jo Surbeck makes Yadderwal and its inhabitants come to life with her eloquent prose. The descriptions of the history and Lore, as well as the setting and people, make this new world distinct and enjoyable. For this reader, Hafwyen and Yestin are what make this a romance that will have you hoping for more. The scenes between them accentuate the trust and love that has been built over years. When Hafwyen acknowledges that Yestin is not just a figment of the Dream World, the depth of emotion between them intensifies and from that point forward it is a race to see if they can bind their souls before Hafwyen succumbs to the evil stalking her. The final scenes are lyrical in their beauty and intensity and have this reader hoping that the second book in this series will be available soon.

Fallen Angel Reviews
SUDDEN FALL --There are a lot of elements in Sudden Fall that are truly captivating - the variance in the worlds, the connection between Fionn and Yestin, Wyen's dreams and hopes, and the ever-present danger that Gerardio presents to Wyen and the throne. Surbeck has created a marvelous fantasy, and it is very easy to get caught up in this very unusual world, especially to see hope thrive when there seemed to be none at all. Surbeck delivers all of this with elegance and flair, making this book an exceptional read. Sudden Fall is the first of two books in the Yadderwal Balance Series. Whispered Promise, is coming soon. Lovers of Sudden Fall won't want to miss the next in the series.

In Sudden Fall, the first of her Yadderwal Balance Series, Kally Jo Surbeck weaves a stunning tale of dreams, true love, and the possibilities of what could be if one believes . Her lyrical voice casts a mesmerizing spell that holds you captive from the moment you read the first scene until the very last page. Ms. Surbeck proves once again that she is an author to watch!
Melissa Schroeder
The chemistry between the two is touching and sweet. Not sickeningly sweet but truly romantic. The reader is rooting for them to survive and be together. Ms. Surbeck's villain is three dimensional, more than just a cardboard cut out bad guy, she has given him elements which make the reader feel sympathy for him as they loathe him at the same time.
Sudden Fall is an excellent read, and I highly recommend it. I will be waiting to hear Fionn's story next!
